Mt. St. Helens Legend
A long time ago time there was a great, powerful Chief and his name was Takhoma. He had two wives who were very powerful women and their names were Lawelatla and Patu. They were —doing some things that the Creator did not like and the Creator warned them several times, but they did not heed the Creator’s warnings. The Creator knew that he had to punish them, but he did not want to destroy them because they were such great people so he said that they should remain as a lesson to everyone, forever. So he changed them into great mountains and today we know them as Takhoma as Mount Rainier, Lawelatla as Mount St. Helens, and Patu as Mount Adams.
